Joburg Open Obviously my own competitive instincts haven\'t been too good of late and the captaincy might actually be a blessing in disguise in terms of my golf

Darren played in the Joburg Open in South Africa over the East and West courses at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club. The first two rounds of the event were played on the East and West course with the final two round over the East course.

Darren has been overwhelmed by all the goodwill messages he has received from the world of golf after the announcement of his appointment as the 2016 Ryder Cup captain.

“Obviously my own competitive instincts haven't been too good of late and the captaincy might actually be a blessing in disguise in terms of my golf because it will take my mind away from practising too hard and I'll have a lot of things to focus on,” said Clarke.

“Hopefully it will help me play a little bit better. Certainly this year, I don't think the captaincy will make an awful lot of difference, but I would imagine next year it would make a big difference in my playing schedule.”

Darren shot rounds of 72 72 missing the halfway cut which fell at four under par.
